Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am dealing with a ringworm issue. Initially, it appeared on my arm, and I tried treating it. However, it has now appeared on my legs, back, and buttocks. I attempted to use an ointment, but it caused a burning sensation, and the ringworm is still present. I even took antibiotics, but the problem persists, and more are developing. I am quite concerned and do not know what to do. Is it possible for a ringworm to enter the bloodstream? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

It appears to be tinea cruris, a fungal infection of the groin. To manage the infection, I suggest keeping the affected area dry. Use Clotrimazole powder frequently to maintain dryness. Avoid itching and refrain from scratching. Change your undergarments regularly. Prevent excessive sweating and wearing damp clothes. Avoid over-the-counter or steroid creams like Betnovate, Itch Guard, Quadriderm, Penderm, etc. Do not discontinue treatment once the symptoms disappear. Continue the medication for an extended period to completely eradicate the fungal infection. I suggest checking for diabetes and thyroid issues, especially if the infection recurs despite proper treatment. For treatment, I suggest applying two percent Ketoconazole cream (KZ Cream) twice daily and consulting your GP (general practitioner) for a prescription of Terbinafine 250 mg tablets, to be taken for 21 days.

I hope this helps.
