Will a RC treated tooth give pain after treatment?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I received a root canal treatment on my tooth (#37 tooth), and after 10 months, I have not been experiencing pain. Just this few weeks my tooth hurts every time when it comes to contact with another tooth. But it does not hurt when I do not bite on anything. Is my wisdom tooth growing and gradually affecting the treated tooth? Or is there any possibility that a root canal-treated tooth will still give me pain after it was handled? My tooth is sealed with resin composite filling, and my endodontist never suggested that I should have it crowned.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The best possible way to find out is to get an X-ray done of the area to find out if there is an abscess related to the wisdom tooth or an RCT-treated tooth. Bite on a pen or pencil on that treated tooth, if it pains then it may be related to it else the wisdom tooth may be causing a problem. You may need Antibiotics and painkillers, so get a consultation with your dentist and ask for an X-ray.
