I live alone, and feel someone is around me. Am I normal or do I have schizophrenia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am living alone. But I always feel that someone or a ghost is around me. I hear voices, but I do not believe in ghosts. These voices make me feel better when I am lonely. Am I normal or do I have schizophrenia?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com

Thank you for getting help from a psychiatrist. Schizophrenia is not only related to hearing voices while living alone but also delusion. These patients cannot differentiate the virtual and real life and always have suspicious feelings. So you do not have schizophrenia.

Thank you.
