Patient's Query
Hi doctor.
I am 24 years old and recently noticed a more prominent vein on the top of my penis. It does not cause any pain or irritation, but I am concerned about its appearance. Is this something to worry about? What should I do about it?
Please advise.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
This is completely normal and just a variation in anatomy. There is no need to worry. If the vein enlarges or becomes twisted, it can be treated with sclerotherapy. For now, there is nothing that needs to be done.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
However, the vein was not visible before. When I press on it with my finger and stretch the skin, it disappears, but it reappears after I remove my finger. Could masturbation be a possible cause? What can be done to make it look the way it did before? I am attaching pictures of the area before and after touching it with my finger.
Kindly advise.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I have reviewed the attached pictures (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The superficial penile vein appears to have enlarged and become slightly tortuous. It is normal for the vein to disappear or collapse when pressure is applied, blocking blood flow. It is unlikely that excessive masturbation is the cause. There is no medication to return the vein to its previous state, as this is a normal anatomical variation. Surgical options are available, but they are not necessary at this time. My recommendation is to leave the vein as it is for now.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
Thank you.
