Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having some issues with itchy, dry, flaking skin behind my ears. I used to suffer from eczema when I was a child so I am not sure if this is related. Once all the dry skin falls off it begins to itch again and this has been happening off and on for at least 7 months now. Lately, I have noticed another dry itchy spot under my armpit which does the same thing that my ears do, and recently I have begun to get itchy dry skin at the bottom of my hairline, bottom of my neck and down my neck too.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query and concern.

It seems you can have seborrheic dermatitis.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a papulo-squamous disorder that involves mainly sebum-rich areas of the body like the scalp, face (postauricular areas, eyebrows, side of nose, chin), and trunk. Intermittent, active phases manifest with burning, scaling, and itching, alternating with inactive periods; activity is increased in winter and early spring, with remissions commonly occurring in summer.

You can start the antifungal Ketoconazole shampoo, used twice weekly, alternating with your daily shampoo, use Desonide lotion once daily over affected areas, and take tablet of Levocetirizine once daily for a week.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
