Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have fatigue issues. Can you suggest a health supplement. I was thinking of using Amway Nutrilite Siberian Ginseng with Ginkgo Biloba. I am currently having Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D deficiency for which I am using specific supplement as suggested by my physician which includes Mecobalamin 1500 mcg and Cholecalciferol granules. In addition to this I spend some time in sun. I further wanted to know whether Amway Nutrilite Siberian Ginseng with Ginkgo Biloba will react with any of the current medication. Also, I have attached my latest blood test reports.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I appreciate your efforts for uploading the laboratory reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You are suffering from fatigue syndrome and the reason for that is you have low vitamin and nutrient levels, deranged liver functions (although little one), high cholesterol and deranged lipid profile. Yes, you may use the Amway product. It is a good brand for dermatological and dietary supplements. But there is little to no research available from third party or independent unbiased researchers. So, the safety of dietary products and other drug interactions with your other medications are not much documented. Your supplements are good for vitamins. You have to lower your weight, increase physical activity and have to keep a check on your cholesterol levels to keep in normal range. Try diet modifications too. If these things do not work I will suggest you to start some lipid lowering medicine like Statin. Avoid alcohol and smoking, if you do. It is hazardous for your liver which already is not working good. I request you to get blood tests done for HbSAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) and Anti-HCV (human papillomavirus) both by ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). And to get and ultrasound of complete abdomen. Meanwhile, you can take capsule SeaMega for fatigue and your cholesterol. Try to include salmon fish in your diet.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

As advised, I have started taking salmon fish. I have some of the important stuff coming up so will get the requisite tests done in another 15 days and share the reports. I would like to ask you few more things. Earlier I forgot to mention that I am also suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. From yesterday only I have started the medicine VSL-3 after consulting my gastroenterologist. I am having OCD and anxiety depression syndrome. The thing is that I end up masturbating at times because of which I lose a lot of energy and I am not liking it at all. I am anyway trying on the behavioral stuff to control my anxiety and frequent masturbation. But right now, since some of my important exams are coming up, I do not want to lose energy. My question is, can I use some energy supplement or some other stuff that you may suggest to resolve this issue for the time being?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I want to assure you do not worry as everything is going to be fine if proper care and treatment is opted in for. I have thoroughly gone through your case and can well understand your genuine health concerns. You do not need those supplements as in the presence of a little higher than normal body weight, deranged lipid profile and other associated factors, it is very unnecessary to take such supplements as mentioned by you. But as you are highly concerned about the exams and need conservation of energy, I recommend Ensure Active or Complete or Plus Protein Energy Drink, whichever is available for you, one on every alternate days. If a person can eat and drink properly, then it is highly recommended to fulfill all the nutritional needs through diet. You have to keep an eye on your blood work and I suggest to go for some tests after 4-5 weeks from now to see how you doing. Advised tests are fasting lipid profile, vitamin D and B12 levels, serum proteins and serum electrolytes. You went for blood work one month back from now. I have saved that with your file and will compare it from time to time so that we can work together to control your all issues. Also check your blood pressure with a mercury blood pressure monitor and give me the readings. Inflammatory bowel disease -IBS is of four types; constipation related IBS-C, diarrhea related IBS-D, mixed of constipation and diarrhea type IBS-M, and alternating type IBS-A. Which one is diagnosed by your gastroenterologist? The medicine you mentioned is just a probiotic supplement and may be you need proper medications to address the issue. I am waiting for the tests as advised before. Also give me your sexual history, any unprotected sexual intercourse or sexually active right now or not. It is to see the risk of any sexually transmitted diseases and to screen you for them in advance. Probable diagnosis could be hypercholesterolemia. Keep taking the Vitamin supplements for Vitamin D and B12 and the ones I suggested and you will feel fine soon. It is all due to deficiencies of the vital nutrients. Avoid smoking and alcohol. No Pornography. Keep a company of friends who are amongst the top 5-10 of the class. You will feel the difference. Never remain alone in your room. Study in the library that is reading room and not in your room. It will save you from going astray and you will have maximum chances to get saved from poor and bad habits of sexual practices.
