Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing persistent and severe skin itching with numerous patches all over my body. It is causing me a lot of stress, and I have not been able to find relief. What could be the potential causes of these symptoms, and what steps should I take to address them?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and I do understand your concern.

Based on the information you have provided, it appears to be chronic plaque psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by scaly plaques. About 25% of cases may be itchy, and thick scales are visible. To manage the condition, I would suggest you follow the steps listed below::

  1. For thick scales, you can apply 15% Salicylic acid in mineral oil for 30 minutes. This will soften the scales, making it easier to comb them out with a fine-tooth comb.

  2. Hydration of the skin is crucial in psoriasis as increased skin cell turnover leads to hyperkeratosis. Use emollients and moisturizers frequently to keep the skin hydrated.

  3. During the daytime, apply Liquid Paraffin lotion for 15 days.

  4. Avoid scratching or rubbing the lesions, as it can worsen the condition.

  5. Managing stress and avoiding extreme weather conditions, cold, and emotional trauma may help.

  6. Use a 3% Topisal (Clobetasol and Salicylic acid) ointment or Vitamin D analog (Calcitriol) for two weeks.

  7. Incorporate foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids into your diet.

  8. Include foods rich in Vitamin C, such as amla, gooseberries, and tomatoes.

  9. Moisturize the skin frequently, around three to four times daily. Non-fragrant-based lotions like Moiz MM Moisturizer or Aquasoft cream can be used.

  10. After bathing, use Physiogel Hypoallergenic lotion for two weeks.

  11. Consider using Psoracare soap for bathing for a month.

Consult your specialist doctor, talk to them, and use the medications with their consent.

  1. Have you had any past use of steroids or previous treatments taken for psoriasis?

  2. Is your scalp involved?

  3. How long has the condition been present?

  4. Do you have any itching or burning sensations?

Kindly answer the questions for me to guide you better.

Thank you.
