Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband is 32 years old and is not interested in having sex. He always lacks the desire to have sex. I think that he is suffering from low libido. Can medications help, or does he need lifestyle modifications? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Low Libido has several reasons:

  1. Lower libido is caused primarily by urine infections. You can do a complete urine analysis and ultrasound of the pelvis to diagnose the cause.

  2. Diabetes and hypertension can lower libido. Make sure blood pressure and blood sugar are under control. If you are already on medication, then share the medication name.

  3. Hormonal disturbances such as low testosterone, low levels of thyroid, and high levels of prolactin decrease libido. Check for TFT (thyroid function test), prolactin, and testosterone levels.

  4. Obesity can lower libido. Plan for regular exercise and yoga.

  5. High cholesterol lowers libido. Check for lipid profile and plan for regular exercise.

  6. Chronic disease or any chronic medication can reduce libido. Share details about the illness or medications that your husband has.

  7. Anxiety can also cause libido issues.

You need to do a USG pelvis (ultrasound) to rule out pelvis infection, a thyroid check-up for free T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine), and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), lipid profile to know cholesterol level, blood pressure, and RBS (random blood sugar). Kindly share more details to work on the cause and treatment. Till then, you can use tablet Mildfil 5 mg (Tadalafil) twice a day as a temporary solution.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
