I have a penile skin bridge. Is surgical removal necessary?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I noticed that I have a penile skin bridge. I thought it was normal at first. But after searching on the internet I found that at the age of 24 it can only be removed by surgery. Is there any other method apart from surgery to remove the penile skin bridge? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If you are talking of phimosis (inability to retract the foreskin fully over your glans penis) then yes, it can be removed only by surgery. But do you actually have phimosis is the real question. Try to retract the skin and the point where it is not possible then click a picture and send it. As it is a clinical diagnosis, I will be in a better position to tell you what to do next.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I can retract my foreskin fully over my glans penis. But it just that this penile skin which is attached is not allowing full erection.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I saw the picture. (attachment removed to protect patient identity). This is not phimosis. Clinically this is normal. This skin tag that you are talking of is frenulum which is a normal finding. The only thing is if it is too tight (called as a tight frenulum) i.e. it is causing severe pain during intercourse or bending in erect penis then it needs frenuloplasty. Frenuloplasty is a very basic procedure, it can be done under local anesthesia on OPD basis, nothing to be scared at all even if required. Do you have intercourse yet? Is your erection and penetration into the partner interfering due to this?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No, there is no bending or anything regarding pain. I had intercourse before and no pain during masturbation also. But I realized that this skin may be limiting my erection a little bit. Is there any way now it can elongate or is it normal to have this joint? Is there any cream or oil? It would be really helpful.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is absolutely normal to have this joint. Nothing to be done. No cream or oil is needed. In fact, it is one of the most sensitive part which plays a very important role in reaching orgasm.
