Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took an emergency contraceptive pill twice ten days back. I had unprotected sex. Is it safe to take the pill twice in a month? Should I retake the pill?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Emergency contraception, such as the "morning-after" pill can be used if you have unprotected sex or if your regular method of contraception fails. However, using it frequently or regularly is not recommended as it can disrupt your menstrual cycle and should not be used as a primary form of birth control.

If you took the pill ten days back and then had unprotected sex two days later, you may take another dose of the pill if you are concerned about pregnancy.Remember that taking the pill twice in one month may increase your risk of side effects and disrupt your menstrual cycle.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
