Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having a problem with sinusitis. My doctor ordered me to take Co Altria 10 mg at bedtime. I have taken it at 9 PM and currently, I am experiencing dryness of mouth and headache. What to do? Is this serious? I am also taking Cefixime 200 mg twice daily, Sinupret thrice daily, and Nasoflo spray.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Dryness of mouth might be due to mild anticholinergic effects. It may sometime cause drowsiness and also depends on person to person. This would take a few days to adjust. You can continue this drug along with steam inhalation twice daily.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor, The effect of this will last for how many hours or days? Can steam inhalation lessen the effects of the drugs?
Answered by Dr. Meena Kapil

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The effect of the drug will last for 8 hours or more depends upon its pharmacokinetics. Steam inhalation is preventive in sinus problem if it is mucolytic and helps in clearing of sinus mucus. Even if you skip the drug steam will help in mucus cleaning and congestion.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

How about the Cefixime given to me? How should I know if I am allergic to it? I have taken it twice this day and so far nothing happens. Should I take it for the prescribed days even if I will feel better without reaching the seven days?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Cefixime is a penicillin group (Cefalosporin) antibiotic. This is given to cover bacterial infections in sinuses you can continue it for prescribed days. If you are previously allergic to penicillin group drugs then you can stop. If you develop any rash or itching in the body then this might be a drug allergy. You can try a single dose which is obviously not life-threatening.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have a problem with sneezing. Even if it feel like sneezing it does not continue. I have nasal decongestion in my left nose but the colds do not come out. Is the problem in sneezing connected with that?

Answered by Dr. Meena Kapil

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, congestion and decongestion both have feeling of sneezing. Have you prescribed any nasal spray if yes go for it after steam inhalation.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
