What causes face and neck rashes in an 8-month-old?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 8-month-old baby is suffering from an allergy or rash. First, it started on her neck, a small, tiny bump-like rash, and then it appeared on her face, chest, and all over her neck. What will be the issue? She had eczema before a month and was treated for it.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

There can be a few common reasons for this rash;

1. Oil massage is the most common reason. If so, then please stop doing oil massage.

2. Milk dripping down the chin and neck. This may happen when the child is feeding. If the milk stays there, it may cause irritation and rash on the neck in some children. Please wipe off any milk that may fall out and reach the chin or neck immediately.

3. Eczema (a chronic skin condition that causes dry, itchy, red, swollen, and cracked skin) is less likely, as it cannot be present only on the neck. It will have to be present all over the body.

The solution is to apply moisturizing creams to the affected regions.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
