Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have heard that chronic sleep deprivation can have serious health consequences. Can you explain the long-term effects of sleep deprivation and recommend strategies to prevent it and maintain a healthy sleep schedule? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. Yes, constant headaches and disturbances in brain activities can occur due to insufficient sleep, leading to decreased concentration and impacting both mental and physical health. Typically, a healthy individual should aim for six to eight hours of sleep. Establishing good sleep habits involves maintaining a healthy lifestyle, engaging in regular exercise, and consuming a fresh diet rich in vitamins and minerals from sources like green vegetables, fruits, juices, and soups. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids also contributes to better sleep. It is recommended for a person to go to bed around 10to 11 pm. Changing this habit will not happen overnight. It takes about seven days to establish a new routine. To start, Close phones and all screens around 10 to 11 pm and wake up in the morning around five to six am. By following this pattern consistently for seven days, it will become a habit, and you will naturally be able to sleep at the same time daily. Could you please also share how many hours you sleep daily and at what time you usually go to bed? I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
