Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 30-year-old female with a history of hypothyroidism for more than nine years, but I am irregular in taking my medications for the thyroid issue. I usually get anxious about my son and husband, and when I awake suddenly from my sleep. Is this due to anxiety disorder or some complications due to thyroid issues?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Both anxiety disorders and thyroid issues can contribute to feelings of anxiety. Hypothyroidism, if not properly managed, can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, mood swings, and anxiety. Additionally, irregular medication use for your thyroid issue can further disrupt the balance of thyroid hormones in your body, potentially exacerbating these symptoms. It is essential to regularly take your prescribed thyroid medication as directed by your healthcare provider to maintain stable hormone levels. This can help alleviate symptoms and improve overall well-being. Additionally, seeking support from a mental health professional can assist in managing anxiety symptoms effectively. Can you share with me your recent thyroid test so I can see if your anxiety is due to uncontrolled hypothyroidism?

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
