Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was in a psychiatric hospital treating the right medicine for paranoid schizophrenia. I stayed there for a month. I was discharged in good condition with the medicines below-

  1. Risperidone 6 mg one tablet at night.
  2. Clonazepam 0.5 mg one tablet at night
  3. HMIN (vitamin B12) one tablet at night
  4. Parkin 2 mg one tablet in the morning.

I am getting good results from medicine but since last week my sleep has become difficult and now I cannot sleep at bedtime. Can you make some adjustments or give me medicine to fall asleep at night?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You can discuss with your treating psychiatrist regarding increasing the dose of Clonazepam for a short term, which can then be tapered off. Follow the steps of sleep hygiene:

  1. Sleeping and waking up at regular times.
  2. Avoid caffeinated drinks at least eight hours before sleeping.
  3. Avoid using TV, mobile, laptop, etc. at least half an hour before sleep.
  4. Avoid taking refined sugars and a high-protein diet at night.
  5. Use your bed only for sleeping, that is do not eat or watch TV on it.
  6. Do not take a nap during the day.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
