Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a sore throat for the past four weeks. First, I noticed white streaks that appeared inside my throat and took an antibiotic for it, but that did not work. Then red bumps started to appear and have been for two weeks now. The doctor I visited did blood tests and swab tests, but I am waiting for the results. And he thinks it is viral. I still have a mild sore throat, and it is worst in the morning. I have no issues with my tonsils. I am prone to sore throats, but they usually go away in a few days, but this time it is different. Also, I am currently taking, Omeprazole and Yasmin. My doubt is that, how can it last that long? Kindly give your suggestions.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to the pictures shared, I can see some white patches in the tonsilar fossa but it is not clear in the picture (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). However, I have a few questions, 1. Does it look like oral candidiasis? It usually resembles curdy white patches. 2. Does it look like bacterial tonsillopharyngitis? So I suggest you to follow the instructions below, 1. Take a combination of tablets Amoxicillin (antibiotic) and Clavulanic Acid (antibiotic) 625 mg two times a day after food. 2. Take tablet Acelclofenac (painkiller) with Serratiopeptidase (anti-inflammatory) two times a day after food. 3. Take tablet Pantoprazole (antacid) 40 mg once in the morning on an empty stomach. 4. Take tablet Montelukast (leukotriene receptor antagonist) with Levocetirizine (antihistamine) one in the night after food. Take these medications for a week. 5. Do salt water gargling with lukewarm three times a day. 6. Avoid curds, citrus fruits, bananas, and oil food for a week. Also, I suggest you to check on the internet for oral candidiasis and see if the pictures look similar to your condition (as the patches in the picture you shared do not appear clear). If the patches look like candidiasis, kindly follow up for further management. I hope this was helpful. Kindly follow up with the blood and swab reports. Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. It does not look like a thick or creamy texture like candidiasis. And it is nowhere else in my mouth but just my throat. I was advised to take Phenoxymethylpenicillin for seven days, but there was no improvement. So, I am worried whether it is a sign of something sinister. And what could the red bumps be? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

I understand your concern. It is nothing dangerous to be worried about. It is just an infection, and you need the right antibiotic. Kindly follow the instructions mentioned earlier. The red dots you see are your tonsils; in adults, they appear as small red nodules. But it is nothing to worry about. It is inflamed mildly due to infection. These tonsils are collections of lymphoid cells, which help defend your body against pathogens. Sometimes, they get infected, and the red nodules you see in your posterior pharyngeal wall are also inflamed lymphoid aggregates. So do not worry; it is nothing sinister. It is not cancer. I am glad that it does not appear like candidiasis. I hope this has helped. Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
