What could be the reason for severe sore throat, breathing difficulty, runny nose, and fever for the past two days?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a severe sore throat, breathing difficulty, runny nose, and fever for the past two days.

Kindly help.

Hello,

I appreciate that you have chosen icliniq.com for your medical needs.

I am here to give you the best care possible.

As per the description, it seems that you are having a minor condition called pharyngitis (sore throat), no need to worry about this because it is a highly curable condition with prompt antibiotic therapy. It takes a few days for a complete cure and as of now, you can continue your present medicines. Dizziness and double vision might be due to dehydration and take plenty of water and a good healthy diet.

I suggest you to consult a general physician or an ENT specialist and get the following things done:

  1. Continue your antibiotic therapy, if symptoms persist do a throat swab and switch to a more effective antibiotic.
  2. Take a tablet of Acetaminophen for pain and fever.
  3. Antihistamines like Levocetirizine would provide symptomatic relief.
  4. If nasal obstruction is present you can use nasal decongestants.
  5. Steam inhalation for 20 minutes twice a day.
  6. Check your blood pressure, if you have hypotension IV fluids may be needed.
  7. You have to drink plenty of water (minimum of 2 liters per day) to prevent dehydration.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
