Is it alright to have two glasses, one for the computer and one for daily and regular use?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I went to the optometrist, and the optometrist recommended me to use two pair of glasses, one for computer use only at work (-0.50, -0.50, 0.75) and one for daily and regular use, which is basically for distance (-2.0, -0.50, 0.75). I picked up my new pair of glasses and have been using them since then. It is worth pointing out that I have not had an eye exam for the past three years, and I have been wearing the same prescription all this time, and when I now had the eye exam, my distance condition had slightly increased. Another fact is that I have been wearing glasses since I was 15 years old, and I am currently 32. I have been having a horrible headache for the past four days. I have been feeling dizzy, and it has been hard for my eyes to focus correctly. All of this is making me think it is the new prescription. I have been vigilant today, and the same things are happening. I do not know which prescription it is, if it is both, or if it is the fact that I am constantly changing from one prescription to another whenever I walk out of my desk. Or will this happen until my eyes adapt to the new two pairs of glasses? Or am I doing something wrong? It is the first time I have heard of using two prescriptions, but it made sense because I sometimes get migraines, and the optometrist said this might help. But changing a pair of glasses every time I walk out of my computer might make my eyes more tired since they have to refocus on every shift, causing migraine and dizziness. I guess I need some clarity on this matter.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

We do prescribe two sets of glasses. Separate pair for distance and near or Intermediate distance, but these are defined to people approaching 40 as at this age our accommodation power decrease. Hence, we need separate pair of glasses for working at different distances. As you are young, you do not need two pairs of glasses. Repeated change of glasses is causing this headache. I would recommend you take a second opinion and get proper pair of glasses.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
