This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Last week, I started getting my period and my Implanon has expired. I had sex without protection, and now I am spotting. How can I stop it? And I have been having a brown discharge after my period until I started spotting today. Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query,

I have gone through your history in detail and understand your concerns. As per your description these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance but it could be due to pregnancy. Also the chances are very low. But as you missed your period it could be an anovulatory cycle due to hormonal changes or due to pregnancy if precum contain sperm. I suggest you to get a home urine pregnancy test after seven days of your missed period date and blood beta human chorionic gonadotropin testing to rule out pregnancy. If pregnancy is not there it could be due to hormonal imbalance and you can wait and watch for your menstruation or can take progesterone for withdrawal bleeding. Also I suggest you to get your thyroid profile and hemoglobin test also for any hormonal changes.

Keep follow up for further assistances.

Thank you.
