Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 18 years old and experienced spotting for two days now. The first day was a medium flow, and the next day was very light. I had unprotected sex a week ago and did not start my period for another two weeks. I have some lower abdominal pain, get full quickly, and am sleepy. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You have not mentioned whether you have taken any emergency birth control pills. If this irregular bleeding is happening for the first time, do not panic. Just wait and watch. It is unlikely that you are pregnant this early. If the periods are delayed more than a week, you must check for pregnancy. If positive, we have to deal with it then. Lower abdominal pain and feeling gassy are symptoms common to pregnancy and before a period. At this point, it is better to wait and follow the advice. Either way, it is better to follow some form of reliable birth control to avoid this situation in the future.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
