Can fingering and a handjob transmit an STD?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Today, I went to a massage parlor. I performed fingering on the masseuse, but not deeply, and she gave me a handjob.

After fingering, I washed my hands twice, and after coming home, I washed my hands again with soap. After that, I rinsed my mouth as well.

Is there any risk of getting an STD from this exposure?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

The likelihood of an STI (sexually transmitted infection) from this encounter seems to be pretty low.

Being fingered by someone with healthy skin on your hands is not generally regarded as a high-risk transmission mode of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) or other STIs. Giving a handjob is also not a high-risk sexual activity regarding STIs, assuming that there were no cuts, blood, ulcers, or oral-genital contact involved.

Cleaning your hands, even with soap upon your return home, is just good personal hygiene.

In light of this encounter, the risk of HIV transmission would be deemed as negligible to nonexistent, making a PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) unnecessary. There would also be no other STIs transmitted by this activity.

There is currently no reason to panic or stress out too much. It makes sense to watch out for unusual symptoms, but people exposed similarly usually do not contract an STI. If the anxiety caused by this encounter leads to a lot of distress, then it might make sense to speak with a doctor.

For a more accurate assessment, please answer the following questions:

  • Were there any cuts, injuries or bleeding on your hands?

  • Was there any oral sex involved?

I hope I have addressed all of your questions and concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your answer.

I did not have any wounds or any bleeding in my fingers. No oral sex, but she kissed my nipples, and then I immediately stopped her. That is what happened.
