Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My friend has been complaining of prolonged chest pain for three weeks now. They took medication for gastric issues, but the pain has not subsided. I have attached the angiogram report. An ECG (electrocardiogram) was performed several times, and no abnormalities were found. The angiogram report showed a 12 mm length of mid-LAD (left anterior descending artery) with eccentric calcification. There is soft plaque in the LAD causing 50 percent stenosis. What is the recommended course of action?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I appreciate your concerns and fully understand the sensitivity of these issues. There is considerable calcification in the LAD (left anterior descending artery). If it reaches up to 75 percent, which is quite possible soon, then the complications and consequences could be severe. In the case of single artery involvement in coronary artery disease (CAD), it is best to perform angioplasty on the affected vessel with stent placement. You should take the patient to a cardiologist for this procedure. The cardiologist may conduct an angiogram of the involved coronary artery, and on-table angioplasty could be performed in a single session.
Therefore, remain prepared and discuss possibilities with the cardiologist beforehand. The pain is persistent because it is ischemic pain and will not subside until the affected vessel is addressed.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
