Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can Loteprednol Etabonate eye drop be used for nine days old subconjunctival hemorrhage? I had a sudden onset of eye problem, when I consulted an eye specialist he diagnosed it as a subconjunctival hemorrhage. He advised Ofloxacin eye drop for five days and Teardrop. I am 27 years old, female and married. There is no history of direct, indirect or accidental trauma over right eye or the surrounding region and blood disorder. I am a healthy person works in IT sector. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Most of the time, the cause of a subconjunctival hemorrhage that is idiopathic without any underlying cause. Whatever treatment is given to you is only symptomatic treatment. They may not cure underlying the cause if any. It can occur due to unknowingly rubbing the eyes in sleep, violent coughing, sneezing, straining, high BP, due to drug side effects, eye infections like severe conjunctivitis, etc. What I can suggest is instead of Loteprednol eye drops you can take a high dose of Vitamin C. It helps in faster recovery and prevents further bleeding. I can see in the pictures (attachment removed to protect patient identity) that it is slowly recovering. If it is lasting longer than two weeks without any improvement, then you can go for basic blood tests like bleeding time and clotting time. I hope I have addressed your concerns. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions. Thank you.
