Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am really worried. I had tachycardia yesterday, and I do not know how I can relate to it. I am 25. I have done an EKG, which did not show any abnormalities. It was a very strange feeling inside my chest, and very irregular heartbeats. But as soon as I calmed myself and started to breathe deeply, it went away. Should I visit a doctor? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern. There are two possibilities, one, it can be just a stress-related event or anxiety, and the other may be cardiac arrhythmia like PSVT (paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia) or atrial fibrillation. Anyway, no need to worry about it as it is not life-threatening. Did you have any symptoms like chest pain or heaviness, giddiness, fainting, or syncope? If yes, it suggests that you can have an arrhythmia. If this is occurring frequently like once a day, then we should get one Holter monitoring done which is a 24-hour ECG (electrocardiogram) monitoring device. If not, try to get one ECG done during the episode because ECGs in between would be normal. Do you have any stress or weird thoughts in your mind? If yes, then it may be related to it. Anyway, you can just wait and watch, or else get the tablet Propranolol prescribed by a local doctor which will cover both things.
Hope this helps. Thanks and take care.
