How can I remove body pigmentation and tanning?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have body pigmentation and tanning. I need a skin-whitening body wash that removes all my tanning. I also need something that removes pigmentation on my bum and leaves the skin smooth.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for sharing your concern.

I can completely understand your situation and know how frustrating body tanning and uneven pigmentation can feel, especially at your age, when you want your skin to look smooth and even. Please do not worry, this is very common and very treatable with the right routine and some patience.

First, it is important to understand that no body wash can remove all tanning in a few days. Tanning and bum pigmentation usually happen due to sun exposure, friction, tight clothing, sweating, and sometimes post-inflammatory pigmentation from folliculitis or shaving. We will focus on gradual brightening, smoothing, and preventing further darkening.

For body tanning, use a gentle exfoliating body wash containing glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid two to three times a week at night. Avoid harsh scrubs because they worsen pigmentation. On other days, use a mild soap-free cleanser to maintain the skin barrier.

In the morning, you can apply Tyrodin lotion ( containing glycolic acid, allantoin, aloe vera gel, vitamin E acetate, Niacinamide, sesaflash, Tranexamic acid, kojic acid, arbutin, magnesium, and mulberry extract) on the pigmented areas as advised. It helps reduce melanin formation gradually.

Follow this with a broad-spectrum sunscreen on exposed areas every two to three hours when outdoors. Without sunscreen, tanning will continue, no matter what products you use.

At night, apply Glyco 12 cream (glycolic acid) on alternate nights only on affected areas. Use a thin layer. Mild tingling is normal initially. If irritation occurs, reduce frequency. Do not apply to broken or freshly shaved skin.

When it comes to bum pigmentation, there are a few key steps that can really help improve it. It is not just about using one product, but following the right routine consistently.

  • Wear loose cotton undergarments to reduce friction.
  • Avoid tight leggings for long hours.
  • Do not sit for prolonged periods in sweaty clothes.
  • Moisturize daily with a ceramide-based moisturizer to keep the skin smooth.
  • If the area is also rough, tiny bumps may be due to keratosis pilaris or frictional hyperpigmentation, which improves with consistent chemical exfoliation and moisturization.

Make sure you drink enough water throughout the day and include antioxidant-rich fruits in your diet. Avoid using unnecessary fairness creams or any creams that contain steroids unless prescribed, as they can damage your skin over time.

Be gentle with exfoliation and do not overdo it. Most importantly, stay consistent with your routine and give it at least eight to 12 weeks, as visible improvement takes time and patience.

Please remember, your natural skin tone is beautiful. The goal is even tone and healthy skin, not artificial whitening. Results are gradual but very achievable with consistency.

I hope this was helpful.

Thank you.
