Can my wife consult a doctor virtually to confirm pregnancy during the pandemic?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

We are planning for a baby. We already have a girl child who is seven and half years old. My wife has just missed her menstrual bleeding on the tenth of this month. I want to know about consulting a gynecologist and other tests (if any) during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Is there any option to consult a doctor virtually? Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe during this expecting period?

Kindly guide me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is better to keep indoors in these times to avoid any harm to ourselves and our loved ones. Kindly ask your wife to take a urine pregnancy test with a home kit. If the result is positive, then:

1) Your consultations with a gynecologist can be through video calls. Therefore, there is no immediate need to rush to a hospital.

2) You will have to take a scan and blood test, which can be clubbed and done at a diagnostic center, depending on your residence.

3) There is no contraindication for vaccination in pregnant women. You can take it whenever the vaccine is available.

I hope this was helpful.
