Can a combination of a multivitamin supplement, an antihypertensive vasodilator, and a healthy lifestyle help treat hair loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old female experiencing significant hair loss. Over the past five years, the thickness of my hair has reduced by half, and I have also noticed hair loss in the forehead region. What can I do to promote hair regrowth? Are there any natural methods I can try? Can I use a Protein Booster Shampoo or Minoxidil lotion?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query.

It seems that you may be experiencing female pattern hair loss or telogen effluvium, which can be confirmed if you could provide a picture for further assessment. It is important to note that losing 75 to 100 hairs per day is considered normal. Hair loss is typically a concern when the daily hair fall exceeds this range. Generalized hair loss in females is often linked to factors such as stress, poor sleep, inadequate nutrition, and excessive blood loss during menstruation. Stress-related alopecia is common, where tight hairstyles can create tension at the hair roots, leading to hair loss. Procedures like straightening can also weaken the hair roots. Other conditions like fever, typhoid, malaria, or thyroid issues can contribute to hair loss, although these are less common.

As for treatment, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Ensure you get adequate sleep, eat a balanced diet rich in green vegetables and fruits, and consider taking a multivitamin supplement containing Biotin, Copper, Iron, Selenium, Zinc, L-Cysteine, L-Lysine, and Methionine for at least three months. Check your hemoglobin levels, and if they are low, you may need to start iron and folic acid supplements. Additionally, check for thyroid and diabetes to rule out other potential causes. You can also use hair serum for daily morning local application and Minoxidil 2 % for local application at night. However, please consult your general practitioner or a nearby dermatologist before starting any treatment.

Thank you.
