Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is there any medicine to reduce throat tightness? I am suffering from the last four days. It seems like something is tied around my neck. I do not sense it when I am lying down. But, once I am up, I can again feel this tightness. Attached are my reports. I was suffering from a cough and cold when I was traveling where I had taken over-the-counter medicines like Tylenol, Advil, and Benadryl for temporary relief. I got back home last week with a cough for which I visited a doctor and he gave me meds like Switch CV 325, Odimont LC and Mucovisc which I took for six days. Now, from the last four days, I am feeling a tightness in my neck area. I have done all the said tests, and everything came normal. I am not sure what is causing this. Can you advise any meds for fast relief?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

For complaints of tightness in the neck area, ensure you rule out thyroid disorders.

Regarding cough and cold since your return, I suggest you start tablet Amoxyclav 625 mg (a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) twice a day for five days, tablet Mucinex (Guaifenesin) once daily for seven days and syrup Sucralfate twice daily. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent. Do saltwater gargling every day.

Some questions:

  1. Did you have fever?
  2. Is there any difficulty in swallowing food or water?
  3. What is your thyroid status?
  4. Any voice change?
  5. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have attached the blood reports. See the attached reports. There was no fever or difficulty in swallowing. No voice change either. Also, the tightness is just below the chin and not in the throat. Also, note that I am not getting proper eight hours as there is a change in timezone. I am not sure if this is out of my anxiety or something else.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I just went through your reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) is at 5.09, which is near the borderline. It does not completely rule out a thyroid disorder. I want to know whether you had symptoms of thyroid disorders like overweight, intolerance to cold or hot temperature, and dryness of skin. Did you have a history oftonsillitis? You do not need to worry much unless you had difficulty in swallowing food or water. Unnecessary worry will lead to exacerbation of symptoms. Have a good sleep of eight to nine hours per day. Have a random check-up for blood pressure and heart rate.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

There is no intolerance as such, yes tonsillitis history was there with me. Also right now, I have no other complaints except this tightness, not even cold and cough. I am not sure if you suggested the medicines for cold and cough which I do not have as of now. Please advice. BP is 130/82, SpO2 98, the pulse is 85.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In that case, I suggest the following:

  1. Tablet Cefixime 200 mg twice daily for five days.
  2. Tablet Mucinex (Guaifenesin) once daily for seven days.
  3. Syrup Sucralfate 10 ml twice daily before food.

Nothing to worry. Do salt water gargling. My advice was to repeat your thyroid profile after two months. Follow some precautions like having iodine salt, and avoid cabbage, and cauliflower during these two months. And, compare these two reports.

Stay healthy and blessed.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
