Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I just got my thyroid test results and was wondering what high levels of the following could mean.

  1. Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) Ab: 202.
  2. Endomysial antibody IgA: Positive.
  3. t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA: 9.

Everything else is in the normal range. I was just recently diagnosed with unspecified hypothyroidism. I have also had an ultrasound which showed a large left side of the thyroid and a small nodule on the bridge between both sides of the thyroid. I am going to meet my endocrinologist next week and I would like to get a clarification on this before my appointment. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We will pay close attention to your worries and address all your questions with utmost care.

I just read your query and from what you have mentioned I will explain each one separately as follows:

  1. Thyroid peroxidase antibodies- These are antibodies formed by your body against your own thyroid gland. The solution to this is that you must do your thyroid function test to make sure that your thyroid gland is functioning properly. If you have done it already, then please share the lab results and the ultrasound results.
  2. Endomysial antibody IgA -positive- It means that you are having celiac disease and that your body is allergic to gluten and is making antibodies against gluten. These autoantibodies can cause intestinal swelling and if undetected, can damage the intestinal walls and prevent your body from fully absorbing nutrients from food. Chronic problems can lead to malnutrition in the long run. Treatment for this is to avoid gluten in your diet. Also, avoid wheat, barley, rye, and other gluten-containing foods.
  3. t-Translutaminase IgA -9 - It also means that you have celiac disease.

We look forward to serving you once more and please feel free to contact us whenever you need a professional medical opinion.

Thank you.
