Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a broken tooth in my gums, and the parts left are seen in black. I also have a bad nose infection with yellowish mucus and an awful odor.
I am confused about whether this infection relates to the tooth or something else. Sometimes I can push air up through the tooth, which bubbles the mucus through my nose with that awful smell. Just trying to figure out if it is coming from the tooth or something else.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Based on the image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), it is evident that they are root stumps. Almost all the major portion of the tooth has gone due to decay, and only the root part is left out with decay. It can be infected or not (the image is unclear, so I cannot comment much). You need extraction (removal) of the remaining portion. Otherwise, it can cause pain and infection in the future.
Take an intra-oral periapical radiograph (X-ray) to check for any periapical (beyond the roots) infection. And this will help to see any infection reaching your sinus, which might cause your nose infection. Or the nose infection can be because of any different cause too. Try sending an X-ray for further diagnosis. Do you have any swelling, pus discharge, or pain in that area or below your jawline? Kindly send me a clear picture and X-ray to guide you further. But anyway, it is better to get this tooth extracted as early as possible. Do not worry; you will be fine. After removal, you can replace it with an artificial tooth.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
