How can I get a broken front tooth repair immediately?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I lost my front tooth. Is there anything that can mend it immediately? I mean, like half of the tooth is cut, and the remaining half is there.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If you are not experiencing much pain and have lost more than a quarter or around half of your tooth, you can easily get a composite filling done immediately at your dentist. It would likely be classified as a class 1 or class 2 Ellis fracture. But, if you are experiencing pain or if the anterior (front incisors) fracture line is quite deep, then your dentist may suggest a root canal followed by a front veneer or ceramic cap. The conservative option would typically involve a nano-hybrid or particle filling.

I hope this information helps you, and if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you.

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

If a filling is possible, that would be great.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

I feel uncomfortable after the front filling. The dentist did a good job, but can you please tell if this sensitivity is temporary, or will the tooth require a root canal treatment again?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your query again.

So it might be because it has hardly been one week or 10 days now that you got this filling, right? It will take time, dear, at least up to three months to fully adjust to any bulk filling because your front tooth fracture might be quite a bit.

So also for the past three months, if you are still not able to adjust to the bite in the front area or you are getting very severe sensitivity, then you need to go instead for a veneer. A veneer is like a cap but only for the front portion of the tooth.

I guess you should just wait and watch some more days, and meanwhile, you can apply some vitamin E 400 mg gel over the tooth or use Rexidin Forte gel (Lidocaine 2 percent w/w, Chlorhexidine gluconate 1 percent w/w and Metronidazole 1 percent w/w) or Dentogel (Choline Salicylate 8.7 percent w/w and Lidocaine 2 percent w/w) for the tooth filling. You need to directly apply it, and you can do it any number of times in a day to relieve sensitivity. Start using a potassium nitrate-containing mouthwash.

Consult your doctor and use them accordingly.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
