Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

An ultrasound at 14 weeks gestation revealed that I am expecting di-di twins. Heart beats were 150 and 145. For the past two weeks I have only felt flutters on the left side of my uterus. I also mostly feel a bulge on the left side of my uterus. Is that normal or is there something wrong?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Twin pregnancy is itself more tiring physically as compared to a singleton pregnancy. It is your early second trimester. Have a check on cramps, any vaginal discharge or pain from back to move on to the front, at lower back. If these cramps severe with or without any discharge or bleeding it should be reported to tertiary care hospital. Have you had any cyst, fibroid or any GI disturbance or any other issue? You can have these feelings more frequently as compared to ladies having a singleton pregnancy. It might be possible that developing fetuses move on the left side at present, as still placenta is very small and in the early developmental phase.

To be on the safe side, you can have one scan to check any abnormality which is I think less likely. In the scan, it is better to check cervical length as well. You can see the heartbeat, breathing movements in the scan as well. If it is not your first pregnancy, then you can match this feeling with your first pregnancy as well. But as it is a twin, so feeling more early and more in intensity. Have one urinalysis as well to exclude urine infection. Have plenty of water, fruits, and vegetables. Cranberry juice intake for reducing the risk of urinary tract infection. Discuss scan and urine reports here. Observe closely for any unusual symptoms and report if present.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
