Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My pelvic ultrasound result says dilated fetal large bowel loops. What does this mean? How serious is this?

Thank you.

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing and I understand your concern.

According to the scan (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), the baby is underweight. Dilated large bowel loops mean there must be some issue in the system of the baby, but it is not a serious condition and can be well managed after the birth of the baby. Currently, no intervention is needed for this.

But you should focus on the baby’s weight. I suggest you do Doppler study to see whether the blood supply to the baby is sufficient or not. You should also take care of your diet by adding more green leafy vegetables and fruits to your diet. Take protein powder with milk twice daily. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least three liters of water per day.

Hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
