Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected intercourse without ejaculation inside her before 20 days. And to be on the safe side, she has taken an Unwanted-72 pill within two hours. Her last menstruation was 30 days back, and her bleeding lasts for four days. She has a 30 to 32 days menstrual cycle. Again we had unprotected intercourse without ejaculation ten days ago.

My query is, are there any chances of pregnancy?

We are stressed.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If you had protected sex with a condom, and if the medication was taken post-sex no need to worry about the pregnancy. Any issue with the periods can be due to the side effect of the pill Unwanted-72 (Levonorgestrel).

I would suggest you to drink adequate water and do mild walking daily.

Other reason can be as follow,

1) Infection, so if any white discharge is seen, you can use tablet Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for five days.

2) Hormonal issue for which TFT (thyroid function tests) should be done.

2) PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), which needs an abdomen ultrasound.

3) If anemia, check for hemoglobin.

4) It can be due to vitamin deficiency, so check for folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin D.

5) If dehydration, make sure you take adequate water.

For now, you can tablet Livogen (vitamin B9 and iron) and plan for investigation for proper management.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have one doubt, sir. Does intake of Unwanted 72 cause a delay in periods?

Answered by Dr. Raveendran S R

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is because of the pill. It is a common side effect. It will change the period cycle dates and it may continue for 2 to 3 cycles. After that, it will become normal.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
