Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I went to the ER two weeks ago to be treated for a UTI. I was told to go to an obstetrician if the symptoms persisted. Well, it is back. There is no cramping, no pain in my back, just a constant feeling of having to use the restroom. It hurts and throbs even when I am not using the restroom. It is unbearable. I had Bactrim in the past for the same issue. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do you have the following symptoms:

  1. Feeling of wetness or bed wetting?
  2. Leakage of urine during sneezing or coughing?
  3. A severe urge to go washroom?
  4. Do your fluid intake (coffee, tea) and output match each other?

It seems to be urinary incontinence. Do repeat urinalysis and if infection recurs, take tablet Ciprofloxacin 250 mg 12 hourly for seven days also, urine culture and sensitivity tests have to be done so that we can have an idea of the organism which irritates you and drug sensitivity and resistance as well. In case of urine infection, take plenty of water, cranberry juice, and strict sex and toilet hygiene. Avoid tight and uncomfortable undergarments. If, on urinalysis, the infection does not come as you have told in your history, then because of the urgency of urine, we will have to manage you as a patient of urinary incontinence. For this, first note intake and output in a diary, take pad test, change in lifestyle, especially fluid intake, and then accordingly and subsequently further investigations like residual urine volume and cystoscopy can be taken. In a few cases, a few exercises can be done to control incontinence problems.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
