What could cause elevated ESR and neutrophil count?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I underwent bladder surgery for poor urinary flow. Recently, I had some blood tests performed, and I am confused about the results. I had rheumatic fever 20 years ago and have been taking multiple antibiotics for the past two months.

Please suggest what I should do.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have gone through the attachment (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

Your ASO (antistreptolysin O) titer is raised, suggesting antibodies against streptococcal metabolites. Your ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and neutrophil counts are mildly elevated, suggesting a mild inflammation in the body. It can be due to a urinary tract infection.

Kindly continue the medicines recommended by your physician for UTI (urinary tract infection) and consult your urologist for a deeper insight, as it may be related to your recent bladder operation.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
