Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 21-year-old female. I have a constant urge to pee, but not a large amount comes out; there is a slight burning sensation while peeing as well. It is continuing for three to four days.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I am deeply concerned about your worries
Your symptoms are very suggestive of a urinary tract infection (UTI), most likely a bladder infection (cystitis).
The classic symptoms are exactly what you described:
Constant urge to pee.
Only small amounts are coming out.
Slight burning/stinging while urinating.
Symptoms last three to four days.
This is very common in young women and is usually caused by bacteria irritating the bladder and urethra.
The most likely diagnosis is acute uncomplicated UTI (cystitis)
There are several other possible causes. These are likely based on your symptoms:
Dehydration / concentrated urine can cause burning.
Vaginal infection or irritation (soap, intimate wash, scented products).
STI-related urethritis if sexually active with a new/unprotected partner.
Because it has been continuing for three to four days, it is best to see a doctor/clinic soon for a urine test (urine routine culture).
UTIs often need antibiotics, and symptoms usually improve within 24 to 48 hours after starting treatment.
You have to follow some steps at home to overcome the condition.
Drink plenty of water.
Do not hold urine in.
Avoid coffee, tea, cola, and spicy foods for now (can worsen bladder irritation).
Avoid scented intimate washes/soaps.
Urinate after intercourse if sexually active.
Please seek urgent medical care if you develop:
Fever.
Lower abdominal pain.
Back/flank pain.
Blood in urine.
Nausea/vomiting.
Worsening burning.
This can mean the infection is moving up towards the kidneys.
If you like, I can explain what antibiotics are typically prescribed for a simple UTI (urinary tract infection) so you know what to expect at the clinic.
I hope this answers all of your questions and concerns.
Follow up when you need to.
If you need any additional assistance, please let me know.
Thank you.
