How can a woman manage vaginal bleeding after fingering?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My boyfriend fingered me two days ago, and I had vaginal bleeding. The blood is darker than usual, and the bleeding has increased today. I do not have pain or discomfort, but the blood appears black. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your concern.

Bright red blood from the vagina is clotting blood, not fresh blood. This means that during the act, the fingers could have caused abrasions inside the vagina, probably due to friction, but it does not require urgent or emergency care. This will spontaneously heal within two to three days, and you will not have profuse bleeding. In the meantime, I suggest you insert a tampon to create pressure on the area. If possible, I suggest you place a few drops of Betadine solution on the tampon and remove it after one hour. This should help you the best.
