Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a question regarding Lactomedi intimate care gel (the vaginal insert). I am planning to use it for 10 consecutive days to manage vaginal discharge and itchiness.
If I get my period during the treatment, for example, on the third day, should I stop using it while I am menstruating?
Will pausing during my period and then continuing the remaining doses after it ends reduce the effectiveness of the treatment?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
From what you have described, greenish, clumpy discharge, and itching. Symptoms have been coming back since last five months.
Already tried Canesten (Clotrimazole), but this does not sound like a simple yeast infection anymore.
Yeast infections usually cause thick white discharge that looks like cottage cheese. Green discharge is not typical for that.
When discharge is greenish, we start thinking about other causes, like:
Trichomoniasis (a common, curable sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis).
Bacterial Vaginosis (a common, treatable, non-sexually transmitted vaginal infection caused by an imbalance in normal vaginal flora, where protective Lactobacillus decreases and anaerobic bacteria increase).
Now, about Lactomedi gel (a feminine hygiene product featuring a blend of probiotic lysates, soothing botanical extracts, and hydrating agents), if it is a lactic acid or probiotic-type vaginal gel, it mainly helps balance vaginal pH. That can be supportive, but it does not actually treat infections like trichomoniasis. So if there is an underlying infection, the gel alone will not clear it.
Regarding your period, yes, using vaginal medication during menstruation can reduce its effectiveness. Period blood changes the vaginal environment and can wash out the product.
For over-the-counter gels, it is usually okay to pause during heavy bleeding and continue after your period ends.
But honestly, the bigger issue here is not whether to pause; it is making sure you are treating the right condition.
Because green discharge is not typical of yeast. It has been recurring for months, and antifungal treatment did not fully solved it. At this point, a proper vaginal examination and swab test would be much more helpful than trying another product.
A few important things to think about:
Is there a strong or unpleasant smell?
Is the discharge frothy?
Any burning when you urinate?
Are you sexually active?
If this turns out to be trichomoniasis, your partner would also need treatment, as it can keep coming back.
I completely understand wanting quick relief; vaginal symptoms are uncomfortable and frustrating. But getting the right diagnosis now will save you from repeated treatments that do not fully work.
I hope this answers your query.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
