Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been throwing up blood for over a week now and it is bright red. I have severe pain in the top part of my stomach. The doctor said there is nothing wrong. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

What was hemoglobin level in CBC (complete blood count) report? If it was less than 10 g/dl then you need to hospitalize for supportive treatment, possible blood transfusion requirement and further evaluation. Do you experience difficulty in swallowing, burning type pain in chest?

Blood in vomiting need evaluation to find out the cause for it. Bright red blood in vomit associated with any condition of upper and middle part of esophagus (as blood come out in vomit without going into stomach where it reacts chemically and turned out brown colored). Best investigation (after stabilizing condition) is upper GI (gastro-intestinal) endoscopy.

Investigations to be done

upper GI endoscopy, repeat CBC (after 7-10 from first CBC)

Differential diagnosis

esophageal varices, severe esophgitis

Treatment plan

medical treatment

Regarding follow up

follow up with medical gastroenterologist for further evaluation

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
