Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is it safe to continue taking 30mg of Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) during pregnancy? I was diagnosed about two months ago and have been using the prescription since then. I am uncertain whether I should continue taking it or discontinue it.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I can understand your concern about your symptoms.

Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) is a medication used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Some studies have suggested a potential association between exposure to stimulant medications like Vyvanse during pregnancy and an increased risk of certain birth defects, such as heart defects and cleft lip or palate. However, conflicting findings exist, with other studies not establishing a significant association between stimulant medication use during pregnancy and birth defects. It is crucial to weigh the benefits and risks of taking Vyvanse during pregnancy on an individual basis. If you have been diagnosed with ADHD and are facing symptoms that significantly impact your daily functioning, continuing medication might be essential for symptom management. Nonetheless, it is equally important to address any concerns with your healthcare provider. They can guide you in making an informed decision about whether continuing Vyvanse during pregnancy aligns with your circumstances. In summary, the safety of taking Vyvanse during pregnancy is not definitively established. The decision to continue the medication during pregnancy should be made on an individual basis, in consultation with your physician, particularly one who is well-versed in both pregnancy and ADHD.

I hope this will help you.
