Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a wisdom tooth that is hurting a lot. It is in the lower left jaw. It was hurting 2 years ago, but then it was okay. Now the pain is severe again. I am currently taking Augmentin and Brufen.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

You are highly advised to extract the wisdom tooth, as it is not properly aligned, and forms a gap between it and the molar before it, which is difficult to clean. This unclean space between both molars forms decay. This is the most common cause for this severe pain as this decay is getting deeper and deeper closer to the tooth's nerve.

I suggest you book an appointment with your dentist for a clinical examination and X-ray request. As expected, the doctor will extract your wisdom tooth, and the molar beside it will be treated with root canal treatment if the decay is highly damaging the molar's nerve.

Medications, such as Amoxicillin and Clavulanate potassium, stop any possible infection from happening. Ibuprofen, unfortunately, has a limited pain-killing action when it comes to severe pain (when the nerve is damaged by the decay), but it is useful to reduce the inflammation in the surrounding tissues.

The best treatment starts with a visit to your dentist. Your delay can cause further damage to the prelast molar (adjacent to the wisdom tooth), which may also result in its extraction.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
