Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been diagnosed with PCOD and thyroid disorder, and my hemoglobin level is 8.8 gm/dL. Two months back, I used Intimacy plus 3 contraceptive pills, and withdrawal bleeding started mid-the same month and ended after five days. I stopped using contraceptive pills two days after the bleeding. Again period like full flow bleeding started, so I am scared about whether it is normal.

1. Does the period within five days after withdrawal bleeding not cause blood loss?

2. Can I take iron tablets to compensate for blood loss?

3. Why are periods happening within five days like full period flow?

Currently, I am taking Thyroxin, Oziva women's protein powder. In addition, I took Gynoveda fertility tablets for seven days when the period again came after withdrawal bleeding. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to what you have mentioned, as you have stopped taking the pills, it can lead to irregular bleeding for a few days, and also, as you have a history of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), this can lead to irregular bleeding and cycles. I suggest you not worry as this is nothing serious. But yes, if the bleeding is heavy, I suggest you take tablet Trenaxa (Tranexamic Acid) 500 mg thrice daily for three days, which will control your bleeding.

Now whether further tests are required depends on your future cycles. If regular, nothing is to be done, but if irregular, then investigations and treatment are needed.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is it fine to take Iron tablets? As I have less hemoglobin level (8.8 gm/dL), irregular bleeding may cause blood loss in the body. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you take Iron tablets regularly as your hemoglobin is low. I also suggest some dietary changes.

1. Take a high protein diet, and include more pulses and dry fruits in your diet.

2. Include beetroot and pomegranate as these are rich sources of iron.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
