Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Around the start of this month, I accidentally scratched the back of my leg, which caused a wound. Today, the scab has fallen off. Does it look okay? It did not bleed when the scab came off or hurt. It is a bit dry. Should I put anything on it? Does it look like it is healed well?

Kindly help.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I can understand your concern.

Based on your description, the wound on the back of your leg appears to be healing properly. After a scab falls off, it is normal for the area to be a bit dry. You can gently clean the area with soap and water, and apply a moisturizer or antibiotic ointment if desired to help keep the area moist and prevent further infection. If the wound continues to heal without any signs of redness, swelling, or discharge, it is likely that it is healing well. If you notice any unusual symptoms, such as increased pain, redness, or drainage, it is best to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure that the wound is healing properly and to prevent any potential complications. Since it still looks infected and appears like a cyst in the image (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), antibiotic ointment can be applied to the wound to help prevent infection. Some common antibiotic ointments include Neosporin, Bacitracin, and Polysporin (a combination of Polymyxin B and Bacitracin). These ointments contain antibiotics that can help kill bacteria and promote healing. However, oral antibiotics are much more helpful.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
