Is it safe to go sunbathing with an open wound on the nose?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A lamp fell on my nose and now I have an open wound on the bridge of my nose. My nose really hurts as well. I do not know if it is broken or if it just hurts. Also, I am on a holiday, so I do not know whether I can go sunbathing with the wound or if I should just stay in the shade.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

I have reviewed the attached photograph (attachment removed to protect patient identity). I can appreciate the wound. I suggest you apply a topical antibiotic like Neosporin (Neomycin) ointment on the affected area twice daily, take oral antibiotic like tablet Cephalexin 500 mg twice daily for five days and take anti-inflammatory medicines like Ibuprofen for pain and swelling. I would recommend you stay in shade and avoid direct sunlight on the nose.

Thank you for consulting me.

You can always reach me at icliniq.com.
