Should I avoid sun exposure to prevent scar pigmentation?

Hi doctor,

About three months ago, a bathroom wall mirror fell on me and sliced my left cheek open. It resulted in a pretty deep cut on my cheek about 2.4" of my cheek. I got stitches in an hour and it has been healing well I think. I have also been massaging the scar every day for 10 minutes with Cicaplast for over a month. I was told to completely avoid the sun on my scar. I wear SPF 70 sunscreen every time I leave my home and I simply do not let it get exposed. I use whatever is on my hands to cover it. The only thing is that it is getting very complicated. I am in college and cannot do anything because I am too afraid to be in the sun.

My question is, do I still have to cover my scar, or is sunscreen enough? I really miss being able to just walk to college without fabric on my face. Please help.

How harmful is poison oak when contacted?

Hi doctor,

I disk golf in an area where a decent amount of poison oak is present. I would like to know how fast urushiol binds to skin, and once it does, is there any possibility to spread?

I use an electronic cigarette which requires me to handle cotton that I feed into the atomizer. My doubt is if urushiol vaporizes automatically, what will be the harm?

I have red spots on my skin, which are neither itching nor dry. What could be the probable cause for it?

Hi doctor,

As seen in the attached picture, I have red spots on my skin for two months. It is neither itching nor dry, and now I have small bumps on my arms and the other places of my body. One year back, I had itching in my legs, which I thought to be due to my detergent. The itching stopped on its own, and then I developed red patches on my skin. The doctor prescribed Fucidin and Daivobet, as she thought it is psoriasis. But, it did not work on these red spots. Kindly help.

I am positive for chlamydia and having vaginal itch and smelly discharge. What to do?

Hello doctor,

During this past summer, I have had one sex partner. Also during this summer, I was told by my doctor that I tested positive for Chlamydia. A day after my doctor's visit, I noticed that on the left part of my upper lip, there seems to be like a rise in the skin. There are no bumps, no burning, or no itching. I have become very stressed about this because as I examined the lips of others, that part of my lip was starting to look strange compared to others.

My partner and I both got our treatment for Chlamydia and waited seven days before having sex again. Now I am experiencing a couple of things that I was not before. My partner is not experiencing anything. I noticed that I was experiencing some itching in my vaginal area (at the top where hair grows). It is not a cluster of bumps, but it is white and very noticeable to the naked eye. I am thinking that it is just public lice but not so sure. Next, I have noticed that I have what felt like two cuts (one on each side) near the bottom of my vaginal area. It does not burn or itch, it is just there. I have experienced some smelly discharge but not a lot. I have not been with anyone else except the same guy I had from the summer. Can you tell me if I might have a certain virus or infection?

I am having a sudden onset of little itchy bumps in the body. What to do?

Hello doctor,

So for the past couple of weeks, I have been very itchy and will break out in little bumps. I went to the doctor to find out if it was an allergic reaction or something else but they were not very helpful. They prescribed me Desonide for the breakouts. I have been using it but it has not helped with the itching. I also talked to a pharmacist and she asked if I had ever had experience with eczema I did when I was a baby, but I thought I had grown out of it. She recommended taking Claritin for the itching and using a moisturizing lotion and to continue using Desonide. I have been doing this for a couple of days and I am still itching like crazy. I do not know what else to do.
