Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female and I have been getting sudden, gnawing pains that come and go in my upper abdomen, especially near the right side but sometimes the left side too, at the bottom of my ribs. I get the pain on my back too on the right side. I had similar pains about two months ago and I had a kidney infection but this feels kind of different and I am worried that there is a problem with my lungs. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. The sudden gnawing pain on the upper abdomen, especially on the right side and sometimes on the left side too, at the bottom of your ribs, could be caused by a variety of conditions, including gastrointestinal problems such as acid reflux or gastritis, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, or even inflammation of the liver or kidney stones. The pain on the back on the right side could also be an indication of a kidney problem. It is important to seek medical attention right away because the pain you are experiencing could potentially indicate a serious underlying condition that requires immediate attention. A doctor can perform various tests to determine the cause of your symptoms and help provide you with relief. When you see a doctor regarding your abdominal pain, they will likely perform a physical exam to check for tenderness or swelling in the abdomen. They may also suggest some imaging tests such as an ultrasound, CT (computed tomography) scan, or X-ray to get a better look at the internal structures of your abdomen and identify any issues. Blood and urine tests may also be suggested to check for infections or other underlying conditions that may be causing your symptoms. Consult your doctor for more specific information about the tests that may be necessary for your individual case.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks.

Regards.
