What causes stomach pain and blood in stool?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have extreme stomach pain, which started today, and I have been to the toilet eight times, and there is blood in my poo.

I have clear pee. I had my appendix removed, but it was not inflamed. I have a fever, too.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

Such blood is due to infection or ulcers caused by infection, so it has to be treated accordingly. If such bleeding continues, then you will have to get IV (intravenous) fluids.

I would suggest you consult a surgeon for blood in stool. There can be a few possibilities, as I mentioned, such as ulcers or anal fissures (a small, painful tear in the lining of the anal canal), and since you have a history of inflamed appendicitis, there is a chance of intestinal infection.

Please do stool culture and sensitivity, USG (ultrasound) of the whole abdomen, and a DRE (digital rectal exam).

Please take the tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once a day before meals and drink enough fluids throughout the day.

Please tell me:

  1. Did you have blood every time you passed stool?

  2. Are you taking any medicine currently?

  3. Is it difficult for you to pass stool on regular days?

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
