Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I went to the dentist three days ago with an abscess in my mouth, and I was given antibiotics. Since that, I have become very unwell. I am unable to get out of bed, keep being sick, horrible headaches, and stomach pain. I even had a seizure last night. I am so weak that I can hardly stand up for a long time without it really hurting me. What do I do? I think the infection has spread. I am awaiting a tooth extraction from the hospital. I took Amoxicillin. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I would like to know if have you had a previous history of seizures. Did your dentist drain the abscess? For an abscess of gum, the first line of treatment is drainage of the same. Also, the focus box infection is to be removed if possible. Usually, carious teeth or deep calculus in the gums are the causes. Carious teeth need to be treated in the next appointment, but calculus can be removed in the first appointment itself. Teeth infection can lead to fever and headaches. Sometimes, Amoxicillin is not effective in severe infection. In such cases, Amoxiclav (a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulinic acid) is given. You should revisit the dentist and ask for the same.

Hope it helps.

Regards.
