Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have noticed a change in the color of my skin on the stomach area and back over the last 3-4 months. There is no itching or discomfort; it just appears darker. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

After reviewing the details and the images you provided (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), it seems like you may be experiencing a condition known as acanthosis nigricans. This is a skin discoloration often found on the neck, underarms, groin, skin folds, and sometimes on the abdomen and back. It is usually not a serious concern, but it may be associated with borderline to high cholesterol levels. Other factors contributing to acanthosis nigricans can include obesity, hormonal changes, thyroid conditions, dietary changes, particularly the consumption of excessive oily, fried foods, red meat, sweets, and dairy products. Genetic predisposition can also play a role in its development at an early age. While acanthosis nigricans usually does not cause symptoms like itching or discomfort, the presence of pigmentation can be bothersome. I suggest you do the following:

  1. Apply Melaglow rich cream (Kojic acid dipalmitate) to the affected areas at night daily for 6-7 months. It should gradually reduce the intensity of pigmentation.
  2. Use any brand of a Glutathione soap at night. Apply on the affected areas, lather with water, leave for 2 minutes, and then rinse.
  3. Take capsule Seacod (cod liver oil) daily after dinner for 2 months.
  4. Consume capsule Evion 400 (Vitamin-E) daily after dinner for 2 months.
  5. Take one tablet Limcee (Vitamin-C) after breakfast and one after dinner for 2 months.
  6. Apply sunscreen every 2 hours from 9 am to 5 pm on your entire body daily.
  7. Maintaining a healthy weight is important.
  8. Consume more fruits, vegetables, fiber, and at least 3 liters of water per day. Avoid oily and fried foods, sweets, red meat, and dairy products.
  9. For faster recovery, you may consider laser procedures performed over 4-5 sessions once a month.
  10. Engage in regular exercise and walking.

Consult your specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medications as per their advice. In case of severe symptoms, I would suggest you consult a healthcare professional for an examination and testing. I also suggest you take fasting lipid profile, RBS (Random Blood Sugar), and Thyroid profile tests to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

I hope these recommendations are helpful.

Thank you.
